🙈Who’s behind this?

This section aims to give the opportunity to introduce some of the best 🇪🇺 founders. Most people loves their products but don’t know who are the founders behind them. Hello World.

TokenAnalyst

Background: I met Jai and Sid at one of the EF open office. While everyone was trying to reinvent internet on the blockchain using magic beans, the team wanted to bring transparency and insights on on-chain transactions. It may seem trivial but one of the major feature of BTC and most other Blockchain (ok. let’s not start about Monero and what if Schnorr signatures) is that anyone has access to the entire audit trail of transaction. However, no one has had built tool for this. Oh yeah. Binance CZ CEO is also a big fan. Enjoy

Hi Jai and Sid, you recently launched a new website full of on-chain data such as exchange inflow and outflow data, got covered by Circle, Bitmex among others but is who is behind TokenAnalyst; Can you share a bit about your background?

🤹 Startups

  • Helsinki-based peer-to-peer exchange LocalBitcoins has removed the option allowing users to buy or sell cryptocurrencies in person for cash. This is maybe one of the most important news of the week. With $52m+ weekly traded BTC volume, LocalBitcoin is a massive player in the P2P cash exchange sector in EM markets. The new regulation and push to share privacy information will create a gap in the market and new entrants will come such as the ones below (HodlHodl and Bisq are leading…)

  • Hackers have siphoned 23.2m Ripple coins (XRP), worth around $9.5 million, from GateHub cryptocurrency wallets, a UK crypto exchange [Source]

  • Coinroom, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in Poland, suddenly closed down its services in April as part of an exit scam that left thousands of customers as victims [Source]

  • Binance has confirmed it will soon issue its own stablecoins. The token will be called Binance GBP, which will be fully backed by reserves of British pounds. More coins tied to other fiat currencies [Source]

🏭Corporates

  • Over 100 Staff Now Reportedly Working On Facebook’s Crypto Project. Most of the team is split between NYC and London. The company will make an announcement in 10 days regarding their plan [Source]

  • Dutch billionaire John De Mol launched a lawsuit against Facebook over crypto ads using his image without permission. He claims that consumers have lost as much as 1.7m euros (over $1.9m) due to the ads [Source]

  • Digital asset trading platform OKCoin has expanded its trading services and opened an office in Malta. This is another sign that crypto exchanges are chasing non-US and non-Asian retail investors [Source]

  • Igor Sechin, the president of Rosneft, Russia's 2nd largest state owned company, said future payments for oil may be made in cryptocurrency [Source]

🏦Regulations / Universities

  • The Republic of San Marino has issued a governmental decree on blockchain tech for businesses. The decree includes tax policies for utility tokens and security tokens. Utility tokens, notably, will be treated as foreign currency for tax purposes [Source]

  • The European Union has told Malta it needs to improve the resources it has to fight potential financial crime as a result of cryptocurrency popularity [Source]

  • Switzerland’s national bank should work with large industry players to develop a Swiss franc token, according to a report by the Avenir Suisse think tank [Source]

💰Fundings

  • A privacy-focused Bitcoin app, Samourai Wallet, got its first round of venture investment, $100,000 from Cypherpunk Holdings. Cypherpunk, a venture fund listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the ticker symbol HODL, was set up as an investment vehicle to support privacy-enhancing technology [Source]
